- Build, maintain, and manage Web Sites. Designed to be light and fast loading while still conveying the message in a pleasant, easy-to-digest manner.
- Integrate major upgrades into existing networks and systems.
- Moved firms from one system to another and, therefore, know just
how daunting such a project is.
- As a Systems Administrator, I work for you. I do not partner with companies wanting to sell you computers, hardware or software.
- Administrators work for you even when everything is going well. I work with you to insure your systems are stable, to back up and secure your data before problems arise.
- Most consultants are “Partners” of Microsoft or some other
company. In
reality, you are paying them for the privilege of being their
customer. In many fields ethics require those who make recomendations to
you to purchase - cannot be the one to sell that item to you.
- Most consultants only come around when you call and as a rule you
only
call when things have already gone wrong and you are already looking at
lost data and productivity and money.
- Advantages of having a Systems Administrator maintaining your computer system.
- I will come in periodically to do preventive maintenance so you will have fewer panic calls for help.
- This means less down time.
- I do not get paid by some software company to sell you software regardless of whether need.
- My hourly rates are usually less than many consultants – mainly
because
I specialize in planned work and less on emergency call work. I can
charge less because I can plan my work so that it done in an efficent
manner.
THE FLAT RATE FIX
Beware of the flat rate special! There are Outfits that advertise that they will fix your computer for just one flat rate. Sounds great doesn't it. There are two problems with this offer.
The first problem - These firms figure that most of the people coming to them can be "fixed" quickly. They then charge enough to cover two to three times this amount to pay for those that will run over. So most people pay too much for the service they get.
However, the real problem with the flat rate fix is that the technician doing the repair has absolutely no incentive to do the job right or even to complete what they have done. In fact they have every incentive to stop as soon as you can once again start using your computer.
I have often followed these flat rate repair people onto sites to find really basic errors and common maintenance left undone. For these firms turning off your computer's firewall is a "fix" to connectivity problems - Yet this will leave your computer open to future attacks.
To properly remove viruses and secure your computer will run somewhere between 2 and 9 hours. This large difference in posible times depends on How bad the infections, how well prepaired for disaster you are and how good your backups are. One place that I worked for a short while instisted that I remove all clean-up tools from the "repaired" computer so that the end user would not figure out how to do it themselves and not come back the next time.
